What’s the Bible, and why does it matter?
The Bible is how God has spoken to us. It’s not just an ancient religious text—it’s living and powerful, and as Christians we believe it’s completely trustworthy. We look to it as our ultimate guide for understanding who God is, who we are, and how to live. It’s where we find the story that makes sense of everything else.
Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Peter 1:3, Psalm 19:7-11, John 15:11
Who is God?
One God, three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It’s mysterious, but it’s not contradictory. These three have eternally known and loved each other, and everything that exists flows from that perfect relationship. God isn’t distant or detached. He’s the Creator who actively sustains everything and is working out a plan to bring people into relationship with himself.
Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4, Psalm 90:2, Isaiah 45:5-6, Isaiah 46:9-10, Matthew 28:19, John 1:1-3, Ephesians 1:11-12, Hebrews 11:3, Revelation 4:11
Who is Jesus?
This is the center of everything. Jesus is God himself—the eternal Son—who became human without ever stopping being God. He was born to a virgin, lived a perfect life, performed miracles, and taught with an authority no one had ever seen. Then he was executed on a Roman cross.
But here’s the thing: that death wasn’t an accident or a tragedy. It was the plan. Jesus died as a substitute, taking the penalty for human sin on himself. And three days later, he rose from the dead—physically, bodily—proving that death itself had been defeated. He’s now alive and reigning, and one day he’s coming back.
Scripture: Mark 2:1-12, John 1:1, 1:14, 8:58, 20:28, Romans 9:5, Matthew 1:20, Luke 1:34-35, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, Acts 2:22, Matthew 20:28, Romans 5:6-8, Hebrews 9:28, Galatians 3:13, Matthew 28:1-7, Acts 1:9-11, 2:23-24, 5:30, Romans 1:4, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8
Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is God at work in the world right now. He’s the one who opens blind eyes, changes hard hearts, and makes spiritually dead people come alive. When someone trusts in Jesus, the Spirit comes to live in them—giving them power to actually live differently and gifts to serve others.
Scripture: John 14:16-17, 16:8, Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 12:1-11, 14:12, Galatians 5:22-25, Ephesians 4:11-12
What’s wrong with the world?
Us. Humanity, that is. God made us in his image—which means every single person has inherent dignity and worth, from conception to death. But we’ve all turned away from God. The first humans rebelled, and we’ve inherited that rebellious nature and acted on it ourselves. The result is that we’re separated from God, under his just judgment, and completely unable to fix the situation on our own.
Scripture: Genesis 1:26-31, Psalm 139:13-14, Genesis 2:18-25, Matthew 19:4-6, Ephesians 5:22-33, Revelation 19:7-9, 21:2, 21:9, Genesis 3:5, 6:5, Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:10-18, 3:23, 5:8, 5:12, 1 Corinthians 15:22, Ephesians 2:1-3
What about marriage and sexuality?
Christians believe God designed marriage as a lifelong union between one man and one woman. It’s not arbitrary—it’s meant to be a picture of something bigger: Christ’s self-giving love for his people. That’s why it matters, and why the Christian vision for sexuality is tied to this framework.
Scripture: Genesis 2:24, Malachi 2:14–15, Matthew 19:4–6, Mark 10:6–9, 1 Corinthians 6:18–20, 1 Corinthians 7:2, Ephesians 5:25–32, 1 Thessalonians 4:3–5, Hebrews 13:4, Revelation 19:7–9
What is the gospel?
“Gospel” literally means “good news,” and here it is: Jesus has done for us what we could never do for ourselves. Through his perfect life, his death in our place, and his resurrection, he’s made a way for guilty people to be forgiven, reconciled to God, and given new life. This isn’t something we earn—it’s received by grace through faith. You turn from going your own way (repentance) and trust in Jesus (faith), and everything changes. Sins forgiven. New identity. Eternal life. Real joy.
And there’s no other way. Jesus himself said he’s the only path to the Father.
Scripture: Matthew 13:44, John 3:14-16, John 5:24, Romans 3:21-26, Romans 4:5, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, Galatians 2:21, Ephesians 1:3, 11, Ephesians 2:4-10, 1 John 5:1, 1 John 1:9, John 14:6, Acts 4:12
Why does church matter?
The church isn’t a building or an institution—it’s all the people throughout history who have been saved by Jesus. And God’s plan has always been for these people to gather together in local communities to worship, grow, serve, and reach others. Christianity isn’t a solo project. If you’re following Jesus, you need a local church, and that church needs you.
Scripture: Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:19-22, 3:10-11, 5:25-27, Genesis 12:1-3, Matthew 16:18, Habakkuk 2:14, Revelation 7:9-10, Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:38, Acts 2:42-47, Romans 6:3-4, Hebrews 10:24-25, 1 Corinthians 12, 1 Corinthians 14:12, 1 Timothy 3:1-3, Titus 1:5-11, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
What happens when we die?
Everyone will be physically resurrected and stand before God. For those who have trusted in Christ, that’s the beginning of eternal life in the presence of God—more real and more alive than anything we’ve experienced here. For those who haven’t, Jesus himself taught that the consequence is eternal separation from God in hell. It’s sobering, and it’s one of the reasons Christians are so eager to share this message.
Scripture: Matthew 24:30, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, Romans 14:9, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Matthew 25:41, Mark 9:43-48, Luke 12:5, Revelation 21-22
